Take yourself on vacation with the refreshing flavors of this tropical smoothie. Filled with dark leafy greens that provide us with essential nutrients which help in reducing the risk of certain cancers and heart disease. Dark leafy greens are also low in fat, packed with folic acid, fiber, vitamin C, potassium, and magnesium. Pineapple and papaya also contain their own special wonders. Both fruits contain enzymes that aid in digestion as well as help us better absorb nutrients, maintaining our stomach and intestinal health. Pineapple contains an enzyme bromelain, which speeds up chemical reactions making it an effective fruit in providing assistance towards the digestion of certain proteins. Papayas provide an enzyme called papain which aids in the absorption of certain proteins. Papayas are great in calming diarrhea and nausea and the overall health of our digestive systems. Both enzymes can be found in capsule form but nothing provides the optimal benefits than consuming the nutrients straight from the fruit itself.
Green Pineapple Papaya Smoothie
1 cup coconut milk, chilled (or coconut water)
1 cup dark leafy greens (spinach or kale)
1 cup chopped papaya
½ cup chopped pineapple
1 tsp raw honey
1 tsp crushed fresh ginger *optional*
Add ice if desired
- Combine coconut milk and spinach in a blender and blend well.
- Next add papaya, pineapple, honey and ginger. Blend well again.
- Pour into serving cup and enjoy!
