Lassi is a popular yogurt-based drink that originated in the Indian subcontinent. One of the most popular varieties are Mango Lassi using ripe mangos blended with yogurt, and sometimes cinnamon or cardamom. This recipe is simple with minimal added sugar. The key is to find mangos that are perfectly ripe and sweet enough to stand on their own, with little to no help. Mangos are abundant in minerals, vitamins, and antioxidants which make them a staple food to incorporate in your diet. They contain an enzyme that is beneficial towards digestive health and known to soothe the stomach. Mangos are also rich in fiber which continue to support digestive health. They are also plentiful in iron which when consumed regularly, can reduce the effects of anemia by increasing red blood cell count throughout the body. Mango Lassi
Ingredients:
1 cup fresh ripe mango, chopped
1 cup non-fat yogurt (can use plain or vanilla)
½ cup milk (almond, coconut etc)
2 teaspoons honey or sugar
Pinch of cinnamon or cardamom *optional*
Directions:
- Combine all ingredients in a blender and mix together well. Let cool in the fridge for a few minutes. Add to serving glass, add fresh mint leaves for garnish if desired, and enjoy!
